I have included this special section for women with Generalized Anxiety (see symptoms below). In the DSMIV diagnostic handbook for psychologists, Generalized Anxiety Disorder is defined by the following:

  • excessive anxiety and worry occurring 6 months or longer
  • difficulty controlling the worry
  • restlessness, feeling keyed up or on edge
  • easily fatigued
  • difficulty concentrating, mind going blank
  • irritability
  • muscle tension
  • difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or both

Below are questions addressing important common issues that women deal with on a daily basis that fuel generalized anxiety. Whether you have any of the above symptoms or not, take some time to read and answer the following questions:

1. Do you feel like you are on the hamster wheel of life?
2. Do you feel confused and/or have difficulties making decisions?
3. Do you feel like you have no choice but to worry about yourself or others?
4. Do you feel competent to meet life’s daily demands?
5. Can you feel and accept your feelings such as sadness, anger, disappointment or emotional pain?
6. Do you often seek approval from others?
7. Do you strive for perfection but never come close?
8. Do you criticize yourself?
9. How well do you connect and know your self and who you really are?
10. Do you place importance on having a healthy relationship with your self?

These are important questions because addressing them will eventually lead to overcoming your anxiety and managing your stress.
